Cowden Czech out striker (September 30)

Blue Brazil boss Keith Wright has arranged a bounce game at Newtongrange and will field a trialist striker from the Czech Republic. This weekend, Cowden face Albion Rovers at Central Park and must win to avoid being stranded in the basement. Skipper Innes Ritchie returns from suspension and front men Liam Buchanan and Iain Mauchlen are expected to be fit after missing recent matches through injury.

Carlin kept out (September 29)

Goalkeeper Andy Carlin broke his thumb in the match at Peterhead and will be out of action for a month. On the plus side, back-up keeper Scott Findlay has returned to full fitness and will compete with young Allan Fleming for the number-one jersey.

Injury worries pile up (September 23)

Cowden have been plagued by injury worries for the trip to face table-toppers Peterhead on Saturday and Blue Brazil boss Keith Wright has been forced to add another three teenagers to his depleted squad.

Suspended skipper Innes Ritchie and injured keeper Scott Findlay had been ruled out previously but now they have been joined by Iain Mauchlen who is out with a thigh problem while Liam Buchanan's knne injury has not cleared up in time to face the League leaders.

Ever-present Callvin Shand was subbed off with a hamstring problem at Montrose and has been unable to train all week. He faces a late fitness test but meanwhile Wright has added youngsters Mark McEwen, Craig Scott and Ryan McCallum to the travelling squad.

Hampden date for youths (September 19)

Cowden have received confirmation from Queen's Park that their Scottish Youth Cup tie will be played on Sunday 10th October. With Scotland entertaining Norway in a World Cup qualifier the day before, it would appear likely that Lesser Hampden will be nominated as the venue for this first-round match. The kick-off time has yet to be confirmed.

Burns calls it a day (September 15)

Wide player John Paul Burns has stunned Cowden with the news that he is quitting the game at the age of 26. John Paul originally joined the Blue Brazil from Hearts and he clocked up over 100 appearances,  netting 17 goals.

He then moved to Glenrothes and starred in the all-Fife Scottish Junior Cup semi-final last season. He recently rejoined Cowden for a second crack at the senior game.

Chris Gray released (September 14)

Cowden have transferred Chris Gray to Tranent Juniors. The 19-year-old player had appeared in a handful of games this season but was finding it difficult to make the training sessions on a regular basis. Therefore it was agreed by mutual consent that he should sign for a club closer to home.

Skipper Innes Ritchie has been handed a two-match ban after exceeding the disciplinary points limit and the fringe players will be staking a claim for selection as Cowden take on Dunbar in a friendly fixture on Tuesday evening.

New signing called in (September 11)

Cowden have signed 18-year old striker Darren Gribben from Hamilton Accies and the youngster goes straight into the pool for this weekend's home fixture against Elgin City.

The Blue Brazil have never lost to the Highlanders and a victory would enable Keith Wright's men to make some headway in the league table as well as providing a significant morale boost.

Results round-up (September 11)

The reserve team opened their season with a 2-0 home defeat against an experienced St Johnstone side. The lads then travelled to Arbroath and went down 4-2 at Gayfield Park, Darren Gribben scoring twice for Cowden.

The Under-19s have had a mixed bag of results in the league so far. The campaign kicked off with a creditable 1-1 draw at Queen of the South but this was followed by a 3-0 reversal at Alloa. The first home match (at Dalgety Bay) saw the youngsters romp to a 9-0 victory against Queen's Park, with Lochgelly lad Stephen Bathgate scoring five.

Meanwhile, the ladies team have also been in action, narrowly losing 3-2 to Bo'ness in their first game but demolishing Larkhall 7-1 the following week.
